Plan to attend the Thursday, June 18 meeting of the CalCoDems at HQ, 812 Noble Street in Anniston, at 6pm to learn more from long-time-favorite and candidate for Alabama's Commissioner of Agriculture, Ron Sparks.  Most don't realize the extent of power and influence this position entails.... A few listed below are:

Agriculture is one of Alabama's largest industries. The commissioner influences:

  • Food safety

  • Farm profitability

  • Consumer protection

  • Rural jobs

  • Livestock health

  • Farmers markets

  • Agricultural economic development statewide.

  • Pesticides usage, etc.

  • Gas pump regulations

  • Appoints Voter Registration members (I know).

  • Crop protection

  • Rural economic development

  • Lots of other responsibilities

The Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries is a statewide elected constitutional officer who serves as the chief executive of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and oversees programs that affect farmers, consumers, food safety, and rural economic development.

Ron Sparks held this position for years, and  Doug Jones influenced Ron to come out of retirement and help Alabama again!
