Nationalize Voting?

This should really worry us. No, it should scare us to death. Trump broadcasts what he plans to do next and we say aloud or to ourselves, 'he can't do that. It's against the law.' Afterwards, we shake our heads and say "I can't believe he did that." And so on.
Now he's broadcasting that he wants to 'nationalize the voting.' President Donald Trump said Monday that Republican lawmakers should nationalize voting — claiming a power explicitly granted to states in the U.S. Constitution.
“Remember, the states are merely an ‘agent’ for the Federal Government in counting and tabulating the votes,” Trump wrote. “They must do what the Federal Government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them, FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY, to do.”

"Survivors often said the most fatal mistake wasn’t support for Hitler. It was delay. People told themselves: He’s loud…but he won’t really do it. This is just rhetoric. The system will restrain him. Someone more powerful will intervene. Each step felt tolerable…on its own. A new law here. A new exception there. A newspaper shut down. A judge replaced. A group singled out “temporarily.” No single moment felt like the end of democracy. Until it was already gone." Holocaust survivor.

Things we can do NOW:

  • CALL our representatives. REMIND them that an election is coming up and they need to convey to Trump that elections belong to the States. To the People. Call from home daily - or join us at HQ Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 am til 4 pm and make the calls among friends.

  • WRITE postcards to your representatives. We have postcards on the tables at HQ, along with markers and postage if you don't have postage. Come in, sit down and write. Have some fresh popcorn and vent your frustrations if you like :)

  • TAKE PLACE in a rally! STAND up, SPEAK out, while it's still legal to do so.

    • Calhoun County 50501 is having a rally at JSU Theron Montgomery Lawn at 1 pm on 6 January. This event was posted on CalCoDem FB page earlier and got a GREAT response :)

    • Valentines Day, February 14th, Calhoun County Democrats are sponsoring an Indivisible National ICE OUT Protest. Please sign up here https://mobilize.us/s/C6uOSM We want to build a HUMAN BILLBOARD that begins at 10th and Quintard and stretches NORTH and SOUTH as far as we can. Details on the website and FB page. Come and be a part of this show of support for Alex Pretti and Renee Good and all the others.

  • ATTEND monthly meetings. Meet Candidates for local, statewide and national office. Candidates have been speaking and taking questions at HQ since last fall and are currently scheduled through July.

  • READ the monthly newsletter, 'We the People.' Articles are written by local people, professors, business people, guests from around the state. Some pieces shared and expanded on from national news, etc. WRITE an article or an OPINION piece.

  • DONATE. Donations keep the lights on and the water running. Donations pay the taxes and insurance on the building that was built and donated to Democrats by Jim Justice. Donations buy paper, pens, dish detergent, paper clips, toilet paper. Not unlike running a household. Donations pay for billboards, signs, just about anything you can think of. CalCoDems get NOTHING, zip, nada from the State or Federal government. HQ is supported entirely by regular people like YOU and ME. We are all in this together. We can't depend on our neighbor to 'carry the load.' Thank you :)

  • We must all do these things before we are 'erased' as a democratic society.

All of us can't do all these things. But all of us can do some of these things.
